Thanksgiving Food Drive for CBS/Paradise Food Bank

For Thanksgiving, we are partnering with the CBS/Paradise Community Food Bank to help support families in our local communities.

We kindly invite all École Topsail Elementary families to contribute to our Thanksgiving Food Drive by sending in non-perishable food items with your child.

When: Monday, October 5th through Friday, October 9th.
How: Please send items in with your child to be placed in the designated bins located near the gym and main office entrances.
What: We are collecting all non-perishable food items.

We will box the collected food for pickup on Friday, October 9th, so it can be distributed in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you for helping us support our neighbours!

KinderStart/KindergartenRegistration

KinderStart/Kindergarten registration will take place on Wednesday, October 7th and Thursday, October 8th, 2026. Updated catchment viewers will also be in place for the rescheduled dates.

The registration platform will open at 9:00 AM (NL time) and will be ongoing for both English and Early French Immersion programs simultaneously,

When open families will be able to register their children for Kindergarten in September 2027 (KinderStart during the 2026-27 school year).

Please note, children registering must be turning five years of age on or before December 31, 2026. Families will need an email address to receive electronic confirmation of registration, a contact phone number, an emergency contact phone number and an internet-ready device to complete the process.

Families needing assistance for any reason (technology issues, learning disabilities, etc.) should contact their zoned school for assistance.

First Recycling Blitz Friday, October 9th

We’re excited to announce how our full program will run this year.

Your support directly funds school initiatives and enhances our students' learning environments—thank you for helping us make a difference!

How to Participate This Year

Supporting our school through recycling is easy! You have two simple options for donating your eligible beverage containers:

1. School Drop-Off (Blitz Days)

Our first scheduled Recycling Blitz Drop-off is, Friday, October 9th, 2026

Bring your bagged beverage containers to the designated drop-off area at the school on the morning of a Blitz Day.
To get entries for our prize draws, please email your child’s teacher with the number of bags you dropped off.

2. Drop Off at CBS Green Depot (Anytime)

You can drop off your recycling at the CBS Green Depot anytime during their operating hours and have the refund credited to the school's account. This is a great option for recycling outside of our school's scheduled Blitz Days!

Simply ask for the refund to be credited to the Topsail Elementary School account.
TIP: Please label each bag clearly with "To the Credit of Topsail Elementary" to ensure it’s properly directed.

Important: What Green Depots Cannot Accept

Milk, as defined under the Canadian Food and Drug Regulations, is deemed an essential nutritional product – no recycling deposit is charged. This includes flavoured and goat’s milk as well. Beverages labelled as a milkshake or made with milk DO NOT fall into this category and are not accepted by our program.
Plant-Based Milk alternatives, such as soy or cashew milk, that are a source of protein and labelled as ‘fortified’ are not accepted. TIP: If the container is labelled as ‘not a source of protein’, it is accepted.
Infant formula
Meal replacement beverages and formulated liquid diets
Concentrated beverages (those that must be mixed before drinking)
Containers greater than 5 litres
Beverage containers bought outside of our province

Kids Eat Smart Walk for Breakfast - Wednesday, October 14th

We are excited to share that our school will be hosting a Kids Eat Smart Walk to Breakfast Fundraiser on Wednesday, October 14th, before school! This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and families to come together to support our Breakfast Program while having some fun.

What is the TD Walk to Breakfast?

The TD Walk to Breakfast is an annual fundraising event organized by the Kids Eat Smart Foundation Newfoundland and Labrador (KES NL) and title sponsor TD Bank Group. Each October, during Kids Eat Smart Week, thousands of children and community members across the province walk to raise awareness and funds for KES Breakfast Clubs.

Fundraising: Schools and communities raise money through donations.
Direct Support: All funds raised at our school stay with our school’s Breakfast Club.
Impact: Every $1 raised = 1 breakfast for a child, ensuring they receive the nutrition they need to learn and grow.
Sponsors: Supported by KES NL, TD Bank Group, and local school communities.
Goal: To provide food and a welcoming environment for every child, every morning.

Our Event at Topsail Elementary

We will begin by gathering at the Soccer Hut in Topsail that morning, where our goal will be to “Pack the Pick Up” truck with nutritious breakfast items for our school. Kids Eat Smart has generously agreed to match any monetary donations, doubling the impact of your gift. The truck will be waiting in the soccer hut parking lot at 7:30 AM on Wednesday, October 14th.

If you are donating food items, please make sure they are peanut free. Suggested items include:

Whole grain cereals (e.g., Cheerios, All-Bran Buds, Chex, Shreddies)
Peanut-free granola bars or other grab and go items
Cheese strings
Yogurt tubes (that can be frozen)
Fruit cups (packed in water, juice or light syrup)
Whole grain crackers (e.g., Breton Veggie Bites, Whole Grain Goldfish)
Whole grain bread/bagels/english muffins
100% dried fruit (e.g., little boxes of cranberries or raisins etc)

We also welcome gluten-free and dairy-free options, ensuring that all students have breakfast choices that meet their dietary needs.

Once the truck is packed, our students and families will walk together to Topsail Elementary around 7:45 a.m., just before the doors open at 8:00 a.m. To celebrate the official launch of our breakfast program, we will also offer grab-and-go breakfast items inside the school as part of our Breakfast Program Launch Day.
